They didn’t come for a show.
They didn’t come for networking.
They came for something simpler — and somehow much more powerful: a shared table.
On the warm evening of Wednesday, July 9th, expats, travelers, and locals gathered again in the heart of Bucharest for an event that was never about name tags or business cards.
It was about breaking bread.
Literally.
The setting was Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant, a cozy and welcoming space tucked away on Calea Vitan. As the injera was passed around and the fragrant stews of lentils and vegetables filled the air, something beautiful happened:
People started listening. People started sharing. Laughter bubbled between bites. Eyes lit up not just from the spice, but from recognition — the kind that happens when you feel seen in a foreign land.
There were no introductions read aloud.
No speeches made.
And yet, by the end of the night, everyone had shared something real — even if just a smile.
It’s easy to feel alone in a new country. Even when surrounded by people.
But at events like these, something shifts. A stranger becomes a friend. A meal becomes a memory. And Bucharest — sometimes confusing, sometimes magical — feels more like home.
This is what Expats in Romania is all about.
Not a group. Not a brand.
A living, breathing network of people helping each other find footing, friendship, and flavor.
